This classic Sci-Fi movie poster was found locally in the basement of a house, its condition reflected how it had been stored over the years
The poster had been mounted to cardboard with contact cement which in itself had over the years caused damage to the poster but the double whammy was that it had also been severely damage by water and the old backing.
Luckily the board was easily removed but the back of the poster was still covered in a lot of contact cement and I now needed to be remove as much as possible.
After several baths the paper was in a extremely fragile state, but we were able to get the poster down on linen pretty darn perfect.
We where not able to remove the staining in the credits. So we had to do some clever masking and air brushing in the white background and as well in the upper left Green background.
I am glad I was able to rescue this poster and of course, so was the customer.
And here is the completed project:
Restoration that included de-mounting, washing, and linen backing.
